One of my customers who has fully embraced the new Teams application provided with O365 subscriptions wanted to be able to run reports to see how users were using the Teams application, what Teams were active and what users were active in any given Team. There were two reports that seemed applicable: O365 Group Report This report provides information on when a Group was last active, who the owner is of that Group, files, storage and other pieces of information. There is no user information, so it could just be one user doing everything, you would never know. Teams User Activity Report This report, breaksRead More →

When testing Expiration policy settings for Teams in April this year, one of my customers noticed that although the policy successfully deleted the O365 Group and the associated SharePoint site/Documents (this takes approximately 24 hours), the Team and Channel were still present within the Teams application (both the Desktop client and the web version). Further testing by manually deleting a Team via O365 group exhibited similar issues. If however the Team was deleted from within the Teams application everything worked as expected. To confirm that this behaviour was seen across the board, I ran tests myself on my own tenant. Everything behaved identically. As aRead More →

A recent investigation was to ascertain why users were not seeing the Office 2016 Click to Run (C2R) splash screen during an install. The install was proceeding and completing successfully, but the users were not being informed of what was happening, so had no idea that Office was updating/installing. From testing, it was discovered that the behaviour changed as of the January 2018 update for Office, and only happened when installing under the system context. Installing with earlier updates e.g. Dec 2017 were successfully displaying the splash screen. Similarly installing in the user context worked. When querying this change in behaviour with Microsoft, I wasRead More →

Like all Microsoft Office applications, the new Teams app has a spellcheck feature. One issue I have ended up investigating was for problems with spellcheck behaving unexpectedly in MS teams. What was noticed, was that users who had Teams enabled for them noticed that all text they typed in the chat window was being underlined in red. This happened regardless of whether the spelling was incorrect or not. The next odd quirk was that if a user right clicked on one of the underlined words, the Teams application would crash. First thing was to check a few of the basics: Was the issue is presentRead More →

Recently I had a need to enable MS project for a user in Office 365, this was the first time I had to do this and it proved interesting and I learnt a lot. The end user already had MS Project 2016 installed on their laptop, so it was just a case of enabling Project in O365, or so I thought. I was WRONG! Login to http://portal.office.com and go to Admin section and then check the user account. The user already had O365 E3 license assigned to them, so I enable Project for the user under the additional “Project Online Professional” license. At this pointRead More →
